Located 15 minutes from Lawndale, California, The massive seaside lagoon offers swimming areas and an extensive sand area for sunbathing with trained lifeguard supervision.
Seaside Lagoon is part pool-part beach, so it’s definitely a unique spot. This saltwater facility exists because a nearby thermal power station pulls saltwater from the ocean to cool down its turbines and sends it to the lagoon, where it gets chlorinated. After stopping at the lagoon, the water gets dechlorinated and sent back to the harbor. So, this place has a sandy “beach” where you can sunbathe and swim in a pool aesthetic vibe, complete with fountain features, water slides, and a diner.
This fun place is pretty accessible as it is located in the popular Redondo Beach harbor area. You can dine at Ruby’s, which offers classical Californian dishes, or bring snacks. Seaside Lagoon offers a beach-like experience, with the difference that the water is chemically clean and primarily shallow, so it is perfect if you’re toting tots around. Seaside Lagoon also features a quirky statue of the Meistrell Twins, Redondo Beach legends who started the wetsuit brand ‘Body Glove.’
