Nisei Week Japanese Festival
One of the biggest cultural events in Los Angeles takes place throughout the month of August with a parade, crowning of the royal court, martial arts demonstrations, and food vendors that highlight authentic Japanese cuisine. Starting with the Baby Show the last Saturday in July at the Centenary United Methodist Church and continuing with the opening ceremony (by invitation only), it highlights just how much of a melting pot Los Angeles and provides plenty of opportunities for visitors to participate.
Don’t miss the Grand Parade the third Sunday in August in Little Tokyo starting at 4 p.m. It’s followed by the Awards Dinner on Monday and Pioneer Luncheon on Wednesday. There’s also the official Nisei Week Japanese Festival the last Saturday in August at the JACCC Plaza from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. Simultaneously, you’ll want to slip away to the Nisei Week Car Show at the Aiso Parking Garage to see some of the most impressive rides straight out of Tokyo.
Honoring Tradition
The last Sunday in August is the final party of the Nisei Week Japanese Festival, and the JACCC Plaza is full of fun, music, dancing, and much more. Help close out the last Nisei Week party of the year at 4 p.m. on 1st street.
