Hermosa Beach Historical Society & Museum

This Museum was founded in 1987, and its mission is to engage, educate and delight the community through the exploration and presentation of history. The Hermosa Beach Historical Society & Museum collection is extended to the public as a lifelong learning source.

The Hermosa Beach Historical Society & Museum historic building is located in the former Pier Avenue Junior Highschool, the Museum renovated its space through private fundraising, and it opened its doors to the public in 2007 with the current Museum space as it exists nowadays.

The MBHSM’s collection is over 3500 items that include postcards, ephemera, photographs, prints, newspapers, and three-dimensional materials. The Hermosa Beach Historical Society & Museum uses its collection for displays, exhibitions, study and research, educational programs, loans, and reproduction.

This museum hosts and facilitates many events with and for the South Bay community, including the Volleyball Hall of Fame, the Surfer’s Walk of Fame, and other celebrations. The Hermosa Beach Historical Society & Museum also provides monthly educational programs that feature local features and academics and field trip opportunities for schools and local students. The Museum also has a docent program and engaging volunteers, where volunteers and student interns can work directly with the Museum staff to process collections and welcome guests.

Today, the Hermosa Beach Historical Society & Museum has suppressed many of the goals the museum founders ever dreamed of at the Foot of Longfellow in 1987. The Board of Directors’ new generation and dedicated staff continue to expand the Museum with the continued collection and guarding of the Collections & Archives. In 2020, the Museum adopted the Hermosa Beach Mural’s Projecto so as to protect its ten public murals.
